30% Of Porn Surfers Are Women

Just a snippet I found in this article: Thirty percent of all visitors to adult websites, or nearly 12.6 million visitors, were women, according to a September 2006 survey by Nielsen/NetRatings, which measures online audiences. It’s actually a very similar figure to the 2003 survey result, just a little higher. The article looks at the rise of sex toy parties and the way the adult industry is slowly recognising that Read More …

Yep, Women Who Like Porn Must Be Freaks

Faye Flam at Philly.com reports on the recent results of porn-induced sexual arousal in men and women. You may recall a few weeks ago I posted about this. The researchers found that there’s no statistical difference between the time it takes men and women to become turned on when shown porn. Faye seems astounded that women would even get turned on at all, given that she assumes “women are so Read More …

Women’s Sexual Pleasure Survey

Jocelyn Wentland, a researcher at the University of Guelph in Canada, has conducted research into women’s sexual pleasure. Over 1500 women with an average age of 27 completed a questionaire about their sex lives. Results are here. It seems that today’s young women are quite relaxed about their own sexuality and are not afraid to take their pleasure when it suits them. A few results: * 88% are easily sexually Read More …

Clitoraid – A Scam?

This morning I read a board post promoting Clitoraid, a charity aiming to help African women overcome female genital mutilation. The idea is you can “adopt a clitoris” and donate money to help establish a “pleasure hospital” where surgeons will operate on FGM women “uncovering the root of the original clitoris left after the excision. This root and tissues will become the new clitoris. The procedure takes 6 weeks for Read More …

Clitoris Vs Vagina

Australian patron of anti-feminist backlash sentiments, Bettina Arndt, has written an opinion piece berating all those nasty 70s feminists, particularly Shere Hite, for “oppressing” women who have orgasms via intercourse. She’s claiming that new research into the nerve endings of the vagina has made the old vag “fashionable” again after decades of “clitoromania.” Thankfully, Emma Tom has her own spin on this rather over-the-top piece: A better response to Whipple Read More …

My Dirty Bits

Writer India Knight has edited a book called Dirty Bits For Girls. The book is an anthology of those well-thumbed naughty bits cherished by an older generation of women, back when information about sex was a lot harder to find. India’s article on her book appears in the Times Online. Seems that 80s power novels and bodice-ripping romances were highly prized for stirring the erotic imagination. It’s one of those Read More …

The “Women Aren’t Visual” Myth

Sigh. The myth rears it’s ugly head again. This time it’s in the Sun newspaper, quoting sex tips from alleged expert Val Sampson, author of How To Have Great Sex For The Rest Of Your Life. Here’s the offending paragraph: 2) DON’T RELY ON VISUALS Women are much more turned on by what they think and hear than men, who like visual stimulation. Try reading erotic fiction. Porn movies rarely Read More …

UK Men Don’t Like Fake Boobs

A story on Ananova cites a UK survey which claims men think breast implants are a turn-off. A poll of 1600 men by More Magazine found that 85% of men aged 18 to 34 said that they hated plastic surgery. A further 15% said they never noticed fake boobs. More is a magazine for women aged over 40. Now I’m wondering who it is that actually LIKES fake tits. Maybe Read More …

Do Educated Women Have More Orgasms?

An Australian study of 9000 women has concluded that women who have been to university are more likely to have orgasms. At least, that’s if you believe the news reports. CTV reports that having higher levels of education or income result in a higher frequency of orgasm. It’s not the framed certificate or the money that makes the difference, of course. It all comes down to knowing more about one’s Read More …

Women Become Aroused As Quickly As Men

Researchers at McGill University in Canada have used thermal imaging technology to measure the arousal rates of men and women. They’ve concluded that there is no significant different in the time it takes for either gender to become fully aroused. According to their press release, a selection of young men and women were shown gender-specific porn movies, along with control images such as Canadian tourism ads and Mr Bean episodes. Read More …

Do You “Cum Like A Girl”?

LA comedian Cathy Carlson has attempted to trademark the phrase “You cum like a girl.” The story has made news because the judge turned her request down on the grounds that the word “cum” was “scandalous and vulgar” and you can’t have trademarks on rude words, it seems (a fact for which I’m quite pleased). The story also made news because one of the lawyers made use of copious amounts Read More …

Fay Weldon Recommends Faking Orgasm

So, after skimming through this extract from Fay Weldon’s book “What Makes Women Happy” I found myself wondering if it had been written in jest. Surely she can’t be serious? What else to make of paragraphs like this: Better, more conducive to happiness, to see orgasm as an additional extra, something special that happens, a bonus. Just fake. Happy, generous- minded women, who are not too hung up about emotional Read More …

Hairy Chested Hunks

I’ve made a little site called Hairy Chested Hunks. The waxed chest is fairly ubiquitous when it comes to male models. Somewhere along the line it was decided that a hairless chest was best, and I know that a lot of women mourn that fact. Perhaps the waxed chest is a sign of gayness, but that aint necessarily so. Plenty of young straight men are keen to go sans-chest hair Read More …

Sex in 1906

I spent a little too much time researching this month’s feature article at For The Girls. I wanted to know what the sex and reproductive lives of women were like 100 years ago, in 1906. In the end I named the article “Thank God It’s The 21st Century!” A few interesting tidbits: * Kinsey’s 1953 book “Sexual Behaviour in the Human Female” included numerous sexual histories of women who were Read More …
