British erotic filmmakers Joybear Pictures is another independent company aiming to include women in their target market.
They’ve produced four films so far. Their site contains galleries and short clips from the three Street Heat films, the 2nd and 3rd of which are intended for both sexes.

Joybear has been busy conducting their own market research into what women want in porn. They’ve been having “focus evenings” where women are invited over to share their opinions on porn, and there’s also an online survey. I’m not sure if they’re still gathering data, unfortunately, because the associated competition finished in January 2006. I’ll be very interested to see what their final results are.
Their mission statement features the following in the “For Her” section:
Fact: Most women don’t like it when a guy comes all over their face
Fact: Most women don’t just want pounding anal sex
Fact: Most women find porn stars unconvincing and unappealing
The spiel in the “For Him” section also suggests that a lot of men are disillusioned with plastic porn stars and fake sex. It’s good to know that Joybear is looking into what people actually want from porn rather than just recreating the usual guff.
I emailed Joybear asking for a bit more information about their company (the website is a bit light-on for info) and hoping for suggestions as to which film I should review. Unfortunately they haven’t replied so I can’t go into any more detail at this point. Still, I’m looking forward to seeing what else this company has up its sleeve.
