The media is a little bit hot and bothered today thanks to Susan Sarandon, who announced that she “wants to direct female-friendly porn in her 80s.” Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, Susan said:
“I have threatened, in my 80s, to direct porn,” she said. “I haven’t watched enough to know what the problems are. Most pornography is brutal and doesn’t look pleasurable from a female point of view. So I’ve been saying that when I no longer want to act, I want to do that.”
OK, so she needs to watch more porn. And, at age 69, it sounds like it will be a while before she moves behind the camera. Perhaps by 2027 porn will be a Hollywood thing.
She went on to give an example of a scene in vampire film The Hunger where she was able to add her own spin to a lesbian hookup. She said she wasn’t so much interested in the actual sex as in the leadup and aftermath.

I’m a long time fan of Rocky Horror and Thelma and Louise so I can’t help but cheer for Susan Sarandon. At the same time, this is reminding me of the Emma Watson comments about how there needs to be feminist porn. Celebs obviously aren’t doing their research on the topic. I guess they can’t really admit to watching it but it would be nice if they had a bit more of an idea what they were talking about.
Let’s say it again: there’s already lots of female friendly and feminist porn. We’re all trying to find new ways to depict sex and some of us are very interested in the whole shebang, the before, the between, the after. I don’t want the camera to pan away once they get naked. Lots of amazing stuff happens during fucking.
