I feel the need to create a post with the latest Ms. Naughty news and also explain what I’ve been up to for the last couple of months since the blog has been very quiet lately. It’s summer here and I’ve actually rarely been at home since October due to a mixture of work travel, family visits and simple holidaying. Mix in a bit of work burnout and I will admit to being a bit slack with porn/blog creation. My office time has been spent madly editing and getting ahead on Bright Desire updates. So…
Film Festivals
Perversion For (Feminist Fun And) Profit from Ms Naughty (Louise Lush) on Vimeo.
East Bay Express Briefs
I was honoured to have FOUR films shown at the East Bay Express Briefs film festival at Oakland (San Francisco) on 12th February. They were Perversion for (Feminist Fun and) Profit (a new silly film I made last month), Danse Erotique starring Jade Janviers, Ryan James: Single Handed and Tactile. Unfortunately I didn’t win but I was pretty pleased to be included. The winners included No Artificial Sweeteners which you can see at Pink Label TV.

Cinekink
Lisa Vandever’s amazing New York festival has screened my films since 2010 and I’m thrilled to be included once again in the 2015 Cinekink program. This year I have Tease in the Lust Stories (female focused porn) session and Instructed in the More Than 50 session. An excerpt from my feature The Fantasy Project is also appearing in the Bring It! porn session. It’s the MMF bisexual scene that I shot in Toronto last year and I’m so happy to have it screened. This is labelled on my harddrive as the “Unicorns” scene because it was so difficult to cast two bi guys. I’m bummed that I can’t make it to New York to see it but I’m also kinda glad that I don’t have more travel to do right now.
Le Fete Du Slip
A new erotic film festival is starting in Switzerland in March. Le Fete Du Slip aims to showcase alternative sexuality and porn films. Transported starring Gala Vanting is showing on March 6 and it’s also in competition. Be warned: their website is in French and horribly lime green.
I also had films showing at several festivals in November 2014 and didn’t write about it. So I’ll throw in a brief mention here: Dear Jiz screened at Mix NYC and also the Tilde Transgender Film Festival in Melbourne. And Instructed and Kaleidogasm screened at Pornotopia in Albuquerque. So I’m glad my work is being seen at festivals around the world!
Award Nominations and Winners
January is Adult Expo and Awards time. (It’s also “let’s go to the beach and not give a damn about porn” time which is why I haven’t blogged this until now). This year I was rather thrilled that Bright Desire received Best Alternative Website nominations from both XBiz and AVN. I didn’t expect to win, it was just nice to get a mention.
The XBiz site nominees included Crash Pad Series, Queer Porn TV and Indie Porn Revolution. The award ultimately went to Sssh.com, the female-friendly porn site that started around the same time as For The Girls. This is the first time a “for women” site has ever won an award so it could be considered a milestone. It’s perhaps ironic that Sssh could actually be considered the most “mainstream” of the “alternative” sites nominated. Angie and Colin Rowntree have done a lot of work making a name for themselves in the LA mainstream industry so it’s not surprising that XBiz acknowledged Sssh this way.
XBiz also offered a Feminist Porn Release of the Year award. Nominees included (S)he Comes by Petra Joy, Bed Party by Shine Louise Houston, Doing It Again: Volume 1 by Tobi Hill-Meyer and Interlude by Sssh.com. The winner was San Francisco Lesbians, Courtney Trouble’s collaboration with mainstream company Smash Pictures.
The AVN Alternative Site of the Year nominees included Erika Lust‘s XConfessions, Crash Pad, Sssh, Wasteland.com and Kink.com among others. The winner was major producer/performer-upload site Clips4Sale.com.
If I were feeling snarky I’d point out that these small concessions by the mainstream industry to alternative and feminist porn still errs on the side of the mainstream when it comes down to handing out the awards. And yes, that does sound like sour grapes :P. But, snarkiness aside, congrats to the winners and also the nominees because I do think all of the abovementioned porn does deserve accolades.
Where Is The Fantasy Project?
In late October I premiered my first feature film The Fantasy Project at the Berlin Porn Film Festival (preview and info here). I was hoping to have it available after the New Year. Well, February is more than half done and the film is still AWOL. I’ve had several people email me to ask what’s happened. The boring truth is that I’ve been away so much haven’t had the time to work on its release. I’m currently messing around with a video-on-demand setup at Bright Desire with the intention of offering the film for download. The software and billing setup is tricky and so I’ve got bogged down in trying to get it all up and running. Having to edit new films for Bright Desire updates has taken precedence. Hopefully I can get things running in the next few weeks. After that I’ll talk to some of the major online stores to get it onto the mainstream market.
Creating a hard copy DVD is also complicated thanks to Australia’s insane classification/censorship system. It would possibly be simpler to have DVDs made and distributed in the US but I’ll admit I have no idea how to do that as yet. Also, nobody buys DVDs anymore so a print run would probably be a loss-making affair for me.
I also have to work on things like bonus scenes and extras for release on Bright Desire but they will come after the main film has gone out.
I’ll keep working on it and hopefully I can get it out to the public by the end of March at the latest.
