Sexy Science: How We Look At Half Naked People

Scientific American reports on a psychology study about half-naked people and ideas of objectification. In six different experiments, a group of people were shown images of clothed and half-naked men and women and instructed to rate their mental capacities. Interestingly, the ratings weren’t influenced by gender. Put simply, men don’t objectify women more. It seems to be a human trait to think differently about people with less clothing. From the Read More …

Sexy Science: Female Orgasms In An MRI

Scientists at Rutger University in New Jersey have created a map of a woman’s brain during an orgasm. They monitored a woman who masturbated in a functional MRI machine and created a digital map of the results. It’s quite an impressive bit of work and may help better understand why some women can’t achieve orgasm. The Guardian reports that activity changes in 80 different sections of the brain during stimulation Read More …

Films From The Berlin Porn Film Festival

I did a bit of surfing and found a number of short films online that were featured at the Berlin Porn Film Festival. Rosamour This amazing little film features only the bellies of two male dancers. It’s not digitally enhanced, though it looks like it in places. It’s bursting with erotic sensibility without showing any “rude bits”. I met the two guys who made it and they were gorgeous. This Read More …

The Amazing, Inspiring Berlin Porn Film Festival 2011

I’m home again, jetlagged but also bursting with inspiration and motivation after my visit to this year’s Berlin Porn Film Festival. All up I may have spent about six days travelling to and from Berlin but it was totally worth the time, effort and money just to be there and be surrounded by so many fascinating ideas and creativity. And, of course, I got to meet some wonderful people and Read More …

Off To The Berlin Porn Film Festival 2011

It’s a bit much really. Just weeks after coming home from a holiday in France I’m about to fly back to Europe to attend the Berlin Porn Film Festival. It’s costing me way too much money and I’m not looking forward to another 23 hours on a plane but I felt like I’d be missing an important opportunity if I didn’t go. My short film The Thought Of Her is Read More …

Porn Research: Younger Women More Likely To Use Porn

In February I met Dr Clarissa Smith who told me about the massive research project into porn that she was undertaking with collegues Feona Attwood and Martin Barker. Not long after they put out the call for porn users to participate in their survey which aimed to look at porn use in a non-judgemental way. They received 5,490 responses to their questionaire and a heap of extended emails. They’re currently Read More …

Anti Porn Rhetoric Lacks Solid Evidence

I’d like to thank ethicist Leslie Cannold for writing this on her blog today. It’s an excerpt from a longer essay called Pornography’s Effects: The Need for Solid Evidence by Ronald Weitzer. You can read the full thing here. The essay, published in the journal Violence Against Women, points out that a lot of the rhetoric of Gail Dines and other anti-porn campaigners is not backed up by any solid Read More …

Hello Lelo Lyla: Motion-Controlled Buzzy Fun

Today I was lucky enough to receive a brand new Lelo Lyla SenseMotion vibrator via an unsuspecting courier. Having battled my way through layers of sticky tape, I finally opened the sleek black box. Inside, nestled amid oh-so-snazzy black velvet, were two rose-coloured objects, neither of which looked anything like a vibrator. “What’s that?” my lovely husband asked. “Wait and see,” I said, thinking I’d show him how they worked. Read More …

Hot Men Make Me Want To Check My Boobs

The charity Rethink Breast Cancer wanted to encourage women to check their boobs regularly. Naturally, they decided the best way to do that was to have good looking, shirtless men talk about it on a Youtube video. And damn, if I don’t feel the sudden urge to go searching for lumps right now. It’s a bit cheesy but it did make me laugh… and wish that my doctor stripped off Read More …

My Encounter With A Flasher

Two nuns are sitting on a park bench. Suddenly, a flasher comes up, opens his coat and exposes himself. One nun has a stroke. The other can’t reach that far. The image of the flasher – a man who flashes his genitals at unsuspecting women – is fairly entrenched in our culture. He’s the guy with a long overcoat, bare legs and a furtive look in his eye. Flashers are Read More …

Somebody Think Of The French Children!

I’m back from a lovely month in France. I could bore you with a slide show of my adventures but I thought I’d put up this photo instead. It was on display in a French newsagent on a low shelf. Where children could see it! Ack! Cue the moral outrage! How could this happen? Don’t they know that images of boobs irretrievably corrupt children and turn them into nasty, fire-breathing Read More …

Absent

That’s it, I’m outta here. I’m going to France for a month. For a holiday. When the FTG revamp went to hell again in July, I threw up my hands and said, fuck it, I’m running away. So I am. I’m going to Europe and I’m just going to enjoy myself. No work, no porn, nothing. Just me, having a good time with my lovely spouse. I was going to Read More …

At Last! A Film About The Invention Of The Vibrator

I can’t wait to see this film. Starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy, Hysteria is a dramatisation of the true story behind the invention of the vibrator and it looks like a lot of fun. I read Rachel Maines’ book The Technology of Orgasm back in 1998 when it was released and I wrote a piece on it for Australian Women’s Forum (it’s now in the member’s area of For Read More …

Neglectful

Mea Culpa. I haven’t posted on the blog all month. Firstly, I’ve been busy, and secondly, it’s been kind of nice to just leave it. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’ve been taking a bit of time for myself lately, stepping away from porn and doing other things – namely planning a holiday. I’m bogging off overseas for the whole of September and have been madly getting FTG work Read More …
