In the last month there’s been a flurry of mainstream articles about feminist porn and porn for women and I’ve been way too busy to do anything but tweet them. A lot of these articles have emerged in the wake of the publication of The Feminist Porn Book (I’m in it, buy it now!). So, for the sake of posterity, I’m just going to whack them all willy-nilly into one big blog post for later reference.
“There isn’t one monolithic thing and, yes, of course, built into feminist porn is the notion that we’re critiquing porn that’s already out there, that we feel like doesn’t represent female sexuality in a diverse enough way, doesn’t prioritize female pleasure, doesn’t represent authentic female desire, or simply doesn’t get us off. So we’re going to go and make our own.”

“I had experienced sex in my personal life as a mostly positive, enjoyable, and liberating experience. I wanted to see that experience in the porn I was consuming. Like many female viewers, I had difficulty relating to the women in these films and their sexual presentations.”

The EU in its wisdom is proposing a ban on “all pornography in all media” supposedly to get rid of gender stereotypes and sexism. So smart. Here’s a couple of articles pointing out the obvious stupidity of this move:
