USA Today reports that the new ranges of women’s erotic romance novels are going great guns. Apparently growth has been in the “double digits” (snigger, chortle, snort).
This is actually not a new trend, it’s just that the media has started to pay attention. Erotic romance novels have been on the market for over a decade, with the Black Lace series being one of the oldest and most popular.

Perhaps the big change is that romance stalwart Mills and Boon and Harlequin have jumped on the bandwagon.
In these distinctly non-Fabio novels the heroines will happily shag anyone if they feel like it… but there’s plenty of scope for a nice bit of romance as well.
And all those euphemisms for sex like “his throbbing manhood” and “her luscious cleft” are going by the wayside.
Actually, note to self: Use the phrase “her luscious cleft” in next sex story. Cleft is such a cool word.
