My first evening of the Porn Film Festival in Berlin was spent in the wonderful company of a group of female erotic filmmakers, all of whom create files for women’s porn TV channel Dusk in the Netherlands. Dusk specializes in what it calls “Porna” – porn that caters to women (the -a suffix is feminine, as opposed to the masculine -o suffix in “porno”). Their channel runs 24 hours a day and features only content that has been selected by a panel of over 2000 women. It’s due to launch in the US soon.
On the 28th of November Dusk is hosting a gala event – the 2nd annual Porna Awards. Dusk panel members are invited to the awards night where two awards will be given: Best Porna Scene and Best Newcomer. The nominees are:
Best Porna
Lena – JoyBear, Connections 3 – Ms. Naughty, My Daughter’s Boyfriend 3 – Nica Noelle, Liberté Sexuelle – Ovidie, Dani Loves Girls – Dana Vespoli, Bret and Alex, AbbyWinters

Best New Porna
Don’t touch me – Lucie Blush, Ann & Ryan – Michelle Flynn (Dusk Academy), Girls Sex Tricks – Lara Tinelli
As you can see, a scene from my real-life couples film Connections has been nominated and I’m honoured to be included in such esteemed company. Ovidie and Nica Noelle will be attending the event; alas, having just returned from Europe I can’t afford to go again. I would love to be there.
I have long supported what Dusk is doing. Any outlet that screens and encourages feminist, female-friendly porn is worth celebrating!
I’ll blog about the winners when they’re announced.
On top of this, the nominations for the two main porn industry awards – Xbiz and AVN – have been announced. I’m pleased to say that Bright Desire has received nominations for Best Alternative Website from both AVN and XBiz. This is rather exciting as both represent the mainstream porn industry and feminist porn hasn’t really featured before (although in 2013 Xbiz created the Feminist Porn Release of the Year category). I doubt that my little site will win anything but it’s still exciting to be listed among the larger, well funded big guns.
Edit: The Winners! Best Porna went to Lena by British company Joybear. Best New Porna was won by Girls Sex Tricks by Spanish filmmaker Lara Tinelli.
