From today Mexico is hosting the First International Film Festival of Female Porn Directors . This event runs until the 26th August and features prominent filmmakers Candida Royalle, Tristan Taormino, Jennifer Lyon Bell and Australia’s Liandra Dhal.

“In parallel, we want to make a review and critical reflection of pornography and posporno, so we invite philosophers, cultural critics, psychoanalysts, writers, pornographers, lawyers, sociologists, sexologists, feminists and specialists in the field to join 5 tables round: Freedom of expression , sexual education , ownership of the speeches , body, violence, interpretation and standardization of the study of pornography .”
The festival is located at the University Cultural Center, UNAM in Mexico City as well as several other cinemas.
Jennifer Lyon Bell has blogged about the festival on her Blue Artichoke Films website. She writes:
During the festival, multiple films from each female director will be presented, followed by in-person public Q and A sessions with each director. In addition, three interdisciplinary panels will discuss “Pornography and Freedom of Speech,” “Appropriation of the means of representation” and “Sex fictitious or sexual education”.
It’s great that this event is happening, part of a growing number of festivals and conferences looking at the new wave of feminist and alternative porn. I’d love to have gone.
