Over the weekend I watched all four Alien films plus AVP. It inspired me to get out my book of H.R. Giger’s amazing surreal artwork, some of which is amazingly explicit. Everything he creates has a lurking, dark sexual element to it, as if tapping into the vast and unvoiced fears of our sexual subconscious. It’s both arousing and frightening.
Indeed, if you watch the first Alien film, I can’t help but be surprised that he got away with so much phallic and vulval imagery in 1979.

I went looking for images from the Erotomechanics series which depict metal cocks going into robot mouths and cunts. On the way I found Giger’s official site which has heaps of examples of his work.
It’s also got photos from the official Giger museum in Switzerland, which I’m definitely going to visit next trip to Europe. It’s got this completely brilliant looking bar. I showed my husband and he shuddered. “No way could I relax and drink a beer there… I’d be waiting for something to kill me,” he said.
I also found the above drawing of an Alien fucking a woman from Giger’s Xenorotica series of prints. There’s something really awful about it, but it’s also compelling. I’m feeling tempted to spend the $300 to buy a print but it’s not something you can hang on the wall and show the neighbours.
