I very rarely drag myself away from my established music collection to listen to anything new, because the majority of the stuff currently “charting” is such crap. I have an especially low tolerance for rap and R&B, because most of it is repetitive, obnoxious, sexist garbage.<\/p>\n
Thus, I’m over the moon to read the lyrics<\/a> of Pink’s latest song, Stupid Girls: Pink puts the boot into the idea that girls have to act dumb to be sexy – and has a go at all those g-stringed rap video chicks, submissively gyrating around the dominant male singer like that’s all they’ve ever wanted to do with their lives.<\/p>\n Better still is this message from Pink<\/a> on her website:<\/p>\n “It has actually been inspiring and wonderful to see how much discussion has been happening on the subject of “stupid girls”… a lot of people are relieved that someone has finally said something about the mindless epidemic of unhealthy girls out there promoting consumerism and escapism…<\/p>\n “Also, do not misunderstand me… there is absolutely nothing wrong with being sexy, feeling sexy or dressing sexy. My point is only this: ‘SMART’ and ‘SEXY’ are not oil and water. They can actually work together. You don’t need to dumb yourself down in order to be cute… You can have braces and play the trumpet and you are still just as important as the cheerleader or the skateboarder.”<\/em><\/p>\n Are you standing and applauding yet?<\/p>\n If not, watch the video for Stupid Girls<\/a> and then try not to wake the neighbours with your cheering.<\/p>\n I’ve never previously been a Pink fan. I liked her song “Trouble” but I don’t own any of her albums. I did have the hots for her in the Lady Marmalade video – but who wouldn’t? She out-sizzles Christina Aguilera in a fright wig while still looking in control and smart.<\/p>\n After this, I’m sold.
