\"Afrodite<\/a>April 3 saw the release of Candida Royalle’s first film in the Femme Chocolat series: Afrodite Superstar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She’s touting it as “the first every sexually empowering ethnic erotic film.” Which it may very well be. There’s certainly none of the usual “phat booty” crap going on here.<\/p>\n

I received a press release yesterday about the film:<\/p>\n

Candida Royalle, known for having pioneered the concept of female-sensitive adult movies for couples, and Venus Hottentot, a young African American fledgling filmmaker, have come together to create the first ever adult film that sensitively addresses the needs of women of color. Says Hottentot, who chose her name in honor of The Hottentot Venus, a South African woman who was kidnapped and sexually exploited in the 19th century, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I wanted to create an intelligent and non-pornographic\/ non-exploitive sex film that features characters of color and would be uplifting instead of degrading.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

AFRODITE SUPERSTAR is the first ethnically diverse feature to come out under Femme Chocolat, a new division of Candida Royalle’s internationally acclaimed Femme Productions. With Femme Chocolat she seeks to address the much neglected audience of ethnically diverse couples.<\/p>\n

Reactions to a premier screening of the movie held at New York\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s New School for Social Research were overwhelmingly positive. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Besides all the hotness and chemistry between performers, the plot is really engaging,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d writes Audacia Ray in her column for the popular web site, Fleshbot.com.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6and the sizzling coupling between Simone Valentino and Mr. Marcus actually made us utter the word “Sweet!” out loud in a quiet movie theater\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 It’s not often you see two performers laughing and enjoying themselves during a sex scene instead of making faces like they’re slaughtering a suckling pig.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
