\"TheThe Guardian<\/a> reports that the regional government of Catalan<\/a> in Spain will provide funding for three adult films because they will help to spread the Catalan language.<\/p>\n

The grants of \u00c2\u00a310,000 to a local film-maker are for what he described as women-friendly erotic films called Laura is Not Alone, The Memory of Fish and The Sea Isn’t Blue.<\/p>\n

The actors embark on numerous sexual adventures, including those of a “religious, faithful and hardworking” middle-class girl who has regular weekly meetings with a stranger and is introduced to, among numerous other things, lesbian sex. The movies are marketed as “erotic films for women”, with male director Conrad Son claiming that one, about a male executive, is “for women who want to understand us”.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Apparently the films will not be explicit, but they are about sex, so naturally conservatives are up in arms about “wasting taxpayers money” and all those usual complaints.<\/p>\n

I have to say, those are definitely not standard porn film titles. Never mind Shaving Ryan’s Privates<\/em>, here comes The Memory of Fish<\/em>. In which people have sex and then, four seconds later, forget who they are and what they’re doing.<\/p>\n

I guess the sequel could be Sleeping With The Fishes<\/em>. Most likely it would star Troy McClure<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What I’m also curious about is the idea that a porn film could be used to perpetuate a language. I’m looking forward to this approach being used in English literature classes in the near future. Indeed, why the hell wasn’t it in use when I was plouging through Clarissa<\/a> or stupid bloody Alexander Pope at university?<\/p>\n
