Good news, I thought.<\/p>\n<p>And then the juvenile sniggering started, thanks to this quote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not a magic bullet, but a potentially important intervention,&#8221; agreed Dr Kevin De Cock, of the World Health Organisation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s right folks. The director of the HIV\/AIDS department at the World Health Organisation is named <a href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/hiv\/mediacentre\/news59\/en\/index.html\" target=\"blank\">Kevin De Cock<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now that&#8217;s a serious case of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nominative_determinism\">nominative determinism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I found myself wondering if there are any more examples of people with &#8220;sniggery&#8221; names getting into a sniggery occupation, as it were.<\/p>\n<p>I found:<br \/>\nDr. Bonnie Beaver, gynecologist<br \/>\nDr. Splatt and Dr. Weedon, authors of a paper on incontinence<br \/>\nMr Richard Vice, anti pornography campaigner<br \/>\nDr. Hymen Meltzer, gynecologist<br \/>\nDr. Harry Beaver, gynecologist<br \/>\nDr. Angel Colon, gastroenterologist<br \/>\nDr. Dick Chopp, urologist<br \/>\nJanet Woodcock, US government expert on Viagra<br \/>\nDr. Alden Cockburn, specialises in vasectomy reversals<br \/>\nDr. Handwerker, gynecologist<br \/>\nStewart Hardman, runs gay online gallery Adonis Art<br \/>\nOffa Peanis, Jewish circumcision expert<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Love is the author of &#8220;Hot Monogomy&#8221; but I&#8217;m not sure if it&#8217;s a pseudonym.<br \/>\nThere&#8217;s also Dr. Maroon Dick and Dr. David Dickoff but the page didn&#8217;t say what they do for a living.<\/p>\n<p>(thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dementia.org\/~alycia\/drnames.html\" target=\"blank\">Funny Doctor&#8217;s Names<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/homepage.mac.com\/chapmandave\/aptonyms\/en\/weather.html\">Why Mr Storm Studies Weather<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2132505\/\" target=\"blank\">Slate<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/homepage.mac.com\/chapmandave\/aptonyms\/index2.html\" target=\"blank\">the Canadian Aptonym Center<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Apparently the word <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aptronym\" target=\"blank\">aptonym<\/a> has a similar meaning.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve just read a news story about how circumcision halves the risk of contracting AIDS.
