Bisexual Husbands – Review

bisexualhusbandsLet me tell a story of my porny past. The very first porn video I ever bought (on VHS because I’m ancient) was a bisexual video. Its title was something like The Bi-Ologist and the Oscar-winning plot revolved around people drinking a potion that turned them into bisexual horndogs who were up for sex with anyone. Taboos were broken, threesomes were plentiful and everyone went home happy. I was particularly fond of the male-male-female scenes where the two guys were (gasp!) allowed to fuck each other.

Ever since then there’s been a special place in my heart for MMF bisexual threesomes. So much so that I wrote an MMF scene into my feature film The Fantasy Project and had the pleasure of actually filming an amazing bisexual romp encounter last year. I think the end result is one of the highlights of the film.

When editor Violet Blue offered the chance to review her latest digital collection of erotica, Bisexual Husbands, I was pretty keen to help out. I’ve been reading, writing and editing erotica for such a long time that I don’t actively seek it out for leisure but this time I was interested; the title lured me in big time.

Bisexuality is often dismissed by both gay and straight camps as “not making up your mind” but bi people know its a genuine orientation that deserves respect – and its own erotica genre. On top of that, I know that plenty of women really love the idea of watching two guys fuck each other (and perhaps joining in). And then there are all those guys who dream about it but feel too restrained by societal expectations to do it. Bisexual Husbands offers a chance to explore the idea, if only in the imagination.

The collection comprises 7 stories and 83 Kindle pages so its not huge. Still, it took a bit longer to read than it should have because I kept having to stop reading, go find my spouse and, you know, take care of business. I suspect that that sentence alone should be enough of a recommendation (or a TMI moment) but I’d best fill in the gaps with some actual reviewing as well.

The stories all revolve around male-male-female threesomes with one “straight” married couple and a male friend or stranger. Almost all of them hinge on themes of discovery or first-times; the eager bisexual husbands of the title have yearnings but they haven’t yet dipped their toes in the thrilling world of bisexuality.

Thus, the stories tend to be about losing one’s cocksucking – or anal – virginity to a handsome other guy while the wife happily watches or joins in. This in itself is inherently hot, especially because it’s still such a taboo topic for erotica or porn. Sure, there’s a genre of bi MMF but a lot of the time that comes across as gay porn with a spare woman on the side of the bed. Here, the woman is definitely getting her share of the pleasure, even as the guys go at it hard.

It’s hard to pick a favourite from this selection. The first story, Private Lessons by Emilie Paris, features a husband being seduced by a sexy dance teacher who moves like a panther. This is lush and very much alive with need and discovery. Endings by Julia Moore explores the difference between mundane and forbidden sex and really brings it home with a surprise, fully carnal climax. Tell Me About It by Dante Davidson reminded me that I haven’t read enough quality erotica with male protagonists; it’s a very male yet very sensitive exploration of awakening bi desire. And Sparks Will Fly by Alison Tyler features a random stranger in a romantic hotel room and is, well, just plain hot.

Every story features explicit sex, often in great detail, but none of them ever commit the sin of being boring. The physical ins-and-outs are well balanced by the drama and emotion of what’s happening between the characters and it’s very easy to inhabit their minds even as your vicariously experience their bodies.

Editor Violet Blue offers a solid introduction to the collection, complete with a rather fascinating story about James Dean that I did not know. She’s also interspersed the stories with a mishmash of sex tips and cocktail recipes. It’s an interesting idea that I think only half works – the tips are useful, the recipes may only have limited appeal. But then, I’m very set in my wine-guzzling ways so this may be a bias on my part.

All in all I recommend this collection. It defines itself as “refined litporn” and I think that’s an apt description. This is well-written, extremely arousing, smart erotica with a broad appeal. If you’ve ever fantasized about batting for the other team – or for watching your guy do so – you’ll love this book.
