Tristan Taormino’s Guide To Kinky Sex For Couples

At Bright Desire today I’ve put up a review of Tristan Taormino’s Guide To Kinky Sex For Couples, her new film for Adam and Eve. This film is something of a “beginner’s guide” to kinky sex but the appeal it held for me was the way it explores the more “vanilla” aspects of kink. I’m not really into BDSM or pain but there was a lot in this film that inspired and aroused me. That’s because it takes kink out of the familiar “dungeon, whips and leather” context which we see so often in porn and instead puts it into suburban bedrooms. I think this film makes it a little more accessible and achievable – especially for those who may have read Fifty Shades of Grey and may be curious about trying something new.

Tristan is a great presenter and this film is absolutely packed with information about kink. Topics covered include definitions, consent, negotiation, safe words and discussing fantasy, sensory deprivation, sensation play, orgasm control, forced masturbation, spanking and anal sex. There’s play with feathers, collars, paddles, candle wax and nipple clamps but no “serious” bondage equipment. The film features power play but it’s always done in a respectful way. And the focus is always on the woman’s pleasure.

The sex is pretty fabulous – there’s lots of chemistry between the performers and the cameras focus on their faces to capture their interaction. You don’t often see this kind of “gentle” kink in porn because it so often focuses on hard BDSM or rough sex. There’s an outstanding scene with Aiden Starr and Christian where Aiden dominates her partner with skill but it doesn’t feature the usual “mistress” stylings that seem to be standard with femdom content. So it all makes for a nice change.

The film is three hours long so you definitely get your money’s worth. I recommend it.

  1. I find it a bit sad that you find it good that ‘the focus is always on the woman’s pleasure’. Of cause, there is more than enough stupid porn out there where the focus is solely on the men’s pleasure, which is not sexy either. Shouldn’t the answer be that the focus is on the fact that both can enjoy and like what they do ? Which is, in my eyes, what Tristan is doing and which is one of the things that makes her films really great.

    1. Hi there. I’ve been championing porn for women for 13 years and part of that has been celebrating films where a woman’s pleasure is given priority. I do this simply because the vast majority of porn is made for a male audience and the male orgasm is seen as the most important thing. So this is why I’m happy to see it in Tristan’s film. The movie really does focus on how women can best enjoy kink. That’s not to say it can’t be enjoyed by both partners and the film does make that clear. But the film often speaks to the female audience and I wanted to highlight that.

  2. Hi! You have a point there with the focus on the male audience. I guess it’s just different perception that I would say that Tristan’s films focus on the pleasure of both partners. Perhaps I’m just not skilled enough to see whats going on because I’m a lousy film critic 😉
