On MamaMia: I Make Feminist Porn

mamamiaarticleToday I have a piece about my career in feminist porn at Mia Freedman’s MamaMia blog. The headline is a bit of fun: “This woman spent 13 years creating female-friendly porn”. Kind of like it’s been a life sentence 🙂

If you’re visiting my blog for the first time via MamaMia, hi. Thanks for dropping by. If you want to see what I’m doing with porn right now I’d love you to check out the tour at Bright Desire. If you want some more free videos there’s my channel on Vimeo.

Please follow me on Twitter – I usually talk about porn, feminism, porn, sex work, LGBTIQ issues, porn, censorship, bike riding and being an old fart with a fondness for 70s and 80s music.

If you’re after free female-friendly porn, try my Free Porn Fiesta category or visit the main linklist for sample videos and galleries.

If you’re interested in seeing a wider range of porn that is feminist or respectful to women, please visit:

  • Feminist Porn Guide – it has a list of sites and movies that have won feminist porn awards and who are outwardly feminist and diverse. This includes queer, trans and straight porn. It also has my Periodic Table of Feminist Porn which gives a good idea of who is making it and what kind of porn they’re making.
  • Female Friendly Porn – this site lists porn that seeks to include women in the audience. I’ve listed some more mainstream porn that is not sexist.
  • Porn Movies For Women – A listing of over 400 female-friendly porn films of all varieties and sexualities.

I’m about to go in and make some comments but I thought I’d quickly throw this up on the blog for new visitors. I hope you find something you like. Or, if porn isn’t your thing, I hope you see that it isn’t all bad.

  1. So, you’re like an anonymous, English (?), Erika Lust!

Just a note, on your Bright Desire site, you may want to find a way to label the videos so that straight men know at one glance if they are gay or male solo. Cuz that can come as a bit of a surprise…

    1. Hi. I’m Australian. I’d rather not be anonymous but the legal situation here in Australia means I can’t be as “out” as I’d like.
Bright Desire uses categories and tags to let people know what’s in the videos. I have a couples, solo male, solo female and genderqueer categories plus tags like male-female, male-male, female-female, threesomes etc.
I have deliberately not put a wall around my queer content and that includes the gay or solo male content (by the way, almost all of my solo male content is of straight guys shot from a female perspective, designed for a female audience). I am asking my straight male audience to be accepting of this and open minded. If a member isn’t into gay stuff, that’s OK, but I don’t believe that straight men need to be “protected” from it. Women see girl-girl content all the time and the porn industry actually classifies that as “straight”. I wanted to move beyond that limited labelling system which helps to prop up sexism and homophobia.
