The “Women Aren’t Visual” Myth

Sigh. The myth rears it’s ugly head again.

This time it’s in the Sun newspaper, quoting sex tips from alleged expert Val Sampson, author of How To Have Great Sex For The Rest Of Your Life.

Here’s the offending paragraph:

2) DON’T RELY ON VISUALS

Women are much more turned on by what they think and hear than men, who like visual stimulation.

Try reading erotic fiction. Porn movies rarely work for women so pick up a sexy story instead to get yourself in a sexual mood.

Val hasn’t been reading up on the latest research, instead relying on Kinsey’s assumptions from over 50 years ago.

I’ll say it again: Women ARE visually stimulated. If we’re not getting turned on by porn, it’s because the porn you’re showing us is crap. By all means, wheel out the erotic fiction, it’s great too, but for goodness sakes, stop telling women they’re not visual. It’s just not true.

  1. The myths about women have got to stop! Wether it’s about “women aren’t visually stimulated” or “women aren’t spatal or ” woman can’t do math”
Also the myth of it taking 24 hours for a woman to be turned on has got to go! I’m sick of it too! all these “experts” who say women aren’t visual need to get what’s coming to them, meaning, they should be exposed as the frauds they are.We need more people writing from their own experiences rather than these agenda driven psychologists who try to box women in at every turn!
