Damon and Hunter: My First Gay Porn Film

Damon and Hunter: Doing It TogetherThere I was at the post office, excitedly ripping open the package with my copy of Damon and Hunter: Doing It Together inside and my husband was shushing me and telling me not to wave it around in public.

So we went home and I promptly watched it.

Now, for a start, I’m getting a little jaded about watching porn films. It’s starting to be a bit of a chore, one that I undertake with a vague feeling that I should be doing something more useful with my time. Not so with Damon and Hunter. I was keen to see what Tony Comstock had achieved with his third “pornomentary”.

I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a great film, one that I very much enjoyed watching.

I promptly wrote up a long review for For The Girls, and it’s appearing in today’s update.

What did strike me about Damon and Hunter is that I’ve never actually sat down and watched gay porn. Six years working as a smut peddler and I haven’t bothered with seriously viewing man-on-man action. Sure, I’ve enjoyed MMF bisexual stuff, but not purely gay porn.

One of the reasons for this is that I’ve spent the past six years doing my best to build up a Berlin Wall between my style of porn for women and porn made for gay men. The reason for this is simple: an awful lot of people still don’t believe that women like porn at all, and these same people dismiss the concept of “porn for women” as merely a sissy front for gay porn. Because only gay guys would want to look at naked men, right? And guys who are willing to pose naked are obviously gay anyway, right?

On top of that, I’ve spent a lot of time searching through pictures and movies of guys, trying to find the hot ones to feature on For The Girls. If said guys are holding open their bum cheeks, or fucking each other, the red flag goes up. No thanks, not interested, thankyouverymuch. We’re offering porn to straight women here, so you stay on your side of the line, and I’ll stay on mine.

But now my Berlin Wall has a few cracks. The news that Brokeback Mountain has become a “chick flick” and that lots of porn-hungry girls like the odd bit of homosexual humping has made me reconsider a few definitions. Not to say that Ms Naughty or For The Girls will feature hardcore gay porn anytime soon, but I am prepared to check out just what it is these women find so enthralling.

Damon and Hunter appealed to my curiosity more than anything. I was interested in technique, fascinated by the methods they used to get each other off. I liked the butt fucking part quite a lot (there’s something about a cock going into another guy’s ass that is very sexy, perhaps because it’s so taboo) but I didn’t have quite the intense reaction of the Always Aroused Girl. Whether this is due to my jaded porn sensibilities or something else, I’m not sure.

I must admit to feeling a little left out. There’s no room for a woman to imaginatively insert herself into the action when there’s only two guys. There’s no parallel for me to imagine the sensations being depicted; I couldn’t feel exactly what they were feeling.

Nonetheless, I do know that Damon is one very nice looking gay man and it’s very, very lovely to watch two men kissing each other. Watching the sex scene DID turn me on, in spite of my vaguely intellectual hesitations.

I also know that Comstock Films has again succeeded in making a gorgeous film that brings love and intimacy back into porn. The interview was fascinating, offering a wonderful insight into the life and relationship of two very likeable gay men. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this movie to anyone – straight or gay – who is interested in watching well-made, engaging erotica featuring real human beings having real sex.

But whether I like gay porn on it’s own – enough to seek it out – well, that’s something I’ll have to think about.

  1. Thanks for the very nice words about “Damon and Hunter”!

When I was first exposed to the idea that women enjoy watching gay sex, I have to admit I was puzzled, in spite of the fact that when was 19 I found the “lesbian” photosets in Penthouse quite sizzling.

But since then I’ve talked to many women, including my own wife, who like or even prefer watching gay sex to watching straight sex, and as a result D&H was made very much with the idea that there would be no telling what the gender or sexual orientation of the any one viewer might be.

In fact that’s true with all of our films. I recall a gay man declaring that “M&J should be required viewing for all couples; straight, gay, or lesbian.” I try to make films that don’t make too many assumptions about the audience beyond assuming they are intelligent adults with a healthy interest in sex.

  2. Thanks for your comment Tony. And I think you succeed in making films that aren’t audience-specific. They are simply well-made movies that do a great job of presenting sex in context, showing the full spectrum of intimacy as it occurs within a relationship. This is something that almost everyone can relate to.

Reviewing Damon and Hunter inspired a little bit of personal navel gazing on my part with regards to my own “prurient” reaction to seeing two guys have sex. While this film isn’t about fulfilling other people’s fantasies or “putting yourself into the action”, I was still aware of what my own reactions were to what was on the screen. Was I one of these chicks who likes gay porn? Was it going to be my bag, baby?

I’m not sure. In any case, Damon and Hunter is such a good film that I’ve probably started my exploration of gay porn at the top. It may be all downhill from here.
