The Vancouver Sun reports that nude yoga classes for men are proving to be very popular.
“I have always had an interest in practicing yoga naked, primarily because when you wear clothes you feel them, and I wanted to just be able to feel my body,” says class instructor Ron Stewart. “It just seemed quite natural to me that a spiritual and physical practice be done naked.”

Apparently the guys are all very relaxed about being naked and it enhances their yoga. “After that first day, it was just natural for guys to just come into the room to undress, set up their mats and often they would just sit and meditate until the beginning of class.”
Ron says the classes aren’t sexual and that a mixture of gay and straight men attend.
Interesting, women aren’t so keen to get their kit off and stretch although a women’s class is still planned.
OK, so I’m all for being naked. And I can understand why people would want to enjoy yoga sans clothing. But, really, it’s an activity with some serious mooning potential, and I’m not sure if that wouldn’t distract me completely from my relaxed breathing.
Think about some of those moves. The Plough. The Standing Forward Bend. The Squat. Even the Downward Dog. All these postures are inherently better done while wearing underpants.
And then there’s that thing where yoga helps to release excess wind, especially during some of the more difficult poses. Farting during yoga is embarrassing, no matter how open minded everyone is about it. I suspect that farting while doubled up in a naked Plough would not enhance my state of Nirvana in the slightest.
