Inpulse Pictures has banking trouble

AVN reports that Inpulse, the company creating adult films and cable content for women, has had its accounts cancelled at Citibank.

Founder Kimberly Wilson said she had received a letter from the Chatsworth, California branch of the bank where she has held the company’s accounts since 2003. Apparently Inpulse’s business is “not within their target market”, which probably means that bank doesn’t want to do business with an adult company.

What’s worrying about this is that it may be the thin edge of the wedge, and that more banks may follow their lead. Inpulse can hardly be described as on the cutting edge of offensive or sexist porn. Their product is aimed at women and is respectful and pro-sex. Not that it should make a difference of course. Porn is free speech and the adult industry is a legitimate business, so this kind of harassment from banks is unjustified.

Perhaps the porn industry will have to set up its own bank… “Hi, welcome to Smutbank, can I interest you in a high interest savings account? Here, let me get my boobs out while you think about it…”
